Intermediate Development

Overview

This course follows on from Understanding the Development Process, and looks in more detail at the key risk areas in property development and regeneration of land/property acquisition (conveyancing), managing the design process, the planning process and building contracts.

Target Audience

This course is suitable for Development and Regeneration staff who are new to the discipline, and staff from other teams within Registered Providers who are drafted into Development project teams.

Entry or Pre-course Requirements

This course is designed to follow on from Understanding the Development Process. It is preferable, although not essential, that delegatesshould either have attended that course or have an equivalent level of knowledge.

 Course Plan

This course covers the following subject areas which are addressed at an intermediate level:

Day 1:

  • Welcome
  • Buying property – the conveyancing process, and key risks;
  • Managing the design process – the key elements of best practice;
  • Building contracts – types of contract, key client obligations and how risks are distributed;

Day 2:

  • The planning system – planning policy, Local Development Frameworks, Development Control theory and practice, Section 106 Agreements.
