HATC appointed by GLA for London Housing Standards report.

We are delighted to have been appointed by the GLA to take a snapshot of the quality of private housing being developed in the capital. The Replacement London Plan includes a policy setting minimum residential floor areas for different dwelling types. In addition, the requirements of the Interim London Housing Design Guide will be reflected in forthcoming Supplementary Planning Guidance. The research project will involve sampling planning permissions granted between summer 2009 -summer 2010, measuring the floor area and a range of other characteristics of dwellings for market sale, to identify the level of compliance against space standards and other key standards in the Interim London Housing Design Guide. That focus is exclusively on market sale housing, as affordable housing already has to comply with a range of minimum standards. We expect to report to the GLA in autumn 2011.
