BUILDING FOR LIFE
HATC has been commissioned by the Housing Corporation to develop guidance for affordable housing providers (AHPs) on the meaning of CABE’s Building for Life (B4L) questions, and how to design for success.
With the adoption of B4L as a Grant compliance requirement, it is important that AHP staff understand the urban design issues behind the 20 B4L Questions, to minimise the chances of an adverse B4L assessment of projects in the future. The Guidance will also provide a series of Expectations, clarifying the issues that each Question seeks to address. We will ensure that CABE are fully supportive of this Guidance, to help ensure consistent application of the B4L requirements in the future.
The second draft of the Guidance was presented to a series of Seminars held on the following dates, in Housing Corporation offices:
- June 23rd - Leicester
- June 25th - Croydon
- June 26th - Exeter
- June 30th - Leeds
- July 3rd - Central London
The Guidance will be published by the Housing Corporation at the National Housing Federation’s Annual Conference in Birmingham in September 2008
HOUSEBUILDERS SPACE STANDARDS
We have been commissioned by English Partnerships to undertake a short piece of research into the sizes of dwellings recently developed by housebuilders in London and the South East.
We have been commissioned by English Partnerships to undertake a short piece of research into the sizes of dwellings recently developed by housebuilders in London and the South East. This work will review sales information and ascertain the Gross Internal Area and Net Internal Area of a range of different dwelling types.
This work complements the research we have undertaken on resident satisfaction with the internal space provided in recently developed private properties in London and the South East, which was commissioned jointly by English Partnerships and CABE.
